摘要
Our society and industry rely on high-quality mobile networks for a multitude of different applications and industrial solutions. Therefore, continual enhancement of mobile network quality, especially regarding throughput and the latency to application servers are essential. From a service provider's perspective, the best location for application services must be determined, where centralized and decentralized solutions have pros and cons. Beyond the promise of widespread 5G coverage achieved through massive investments, end users demand good network quality of service (QoS), independent of the available mobile network generation or the location of their application servers, to achieve a high quality of experience (QoE) when using applications. Hence, we analyze the network quality of the European mobile networks using a comprehensive dataset comprising more than 125 million individual performance measurements. Our analysis encompasses the status of 5G roll-out across 23 countries, offering insights into current QoS within mobile networks. By examining key network quality metrics like uplink and downlink bandwidth, latency, and jitter, we compare the network quality of different countries. By mapping the available network quality to network demand for different applications, we address the crucial question of whether our mobile networks are prepared to theoretically provide a high QoE for the next generation of applications, such as autonomous driving.
