摘要
Purpose of ReviewTo discuss the current utilization of robotic platforms in acute care surgery (ACS), existing training programs for acute care surgeons, guidelines for credentialing, and real-world applications of robotic surgery in ACS service lines.Recent FindingsThe evolution of minimally invasive surgery has prompted further research regarding robotic surgery's capabilities and use in ACS. Various training curricula have been developed for robotic surgery certifications which were initially based off case volume, and not on operator proficiency. Despite the lack of a standardized credentialing process, various institutions have implemented successful robotic ACS programs that include training for both surgeons, fellows, and ancillary staff. Institutions integrating RS into existing service lines have shown improvement in patient outcomes and increased RS volume over time.SummaryThe application of robotic acute care surgery has exponentially increased over the last few years and as such, so has the development of robotic training programs. There are many variations of current robotic training programs, as no set standard exists. There is a shift in emphasis from not only training surgeons to be proficient, but also in training ancillary support staff to have a successful 24/7 robotic acute care surgery program. As these programs grow and adapt to accommodate the needs of the acute care surgery population, the approval process and onboarding of robotic-trained surgeons will require further research and inquiry as well.
