摘要
Ethanol is an alternative biofuel that can be blended with fossil fuels to reduce dependence on fossil energy and decrease pollutants from exhaust emissions. The increased production of ethanol results in a by-product generation called fusel oil or higher alcohol. Fusel oil has properties similar to diesel and can be used as an additive to diesel. However, the effects of fusel oil on the combustion and emissions of compression ignition (CI) engines fueled with this blended fuel should be investigated. Therefore, this paper presents the effects of fusel oil on CI engine combustion. Also, the pollutants from exhaust emissions, including carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and particulate matter (PM) are measured and analyzed. The results indicate that fusel oil has little effect on CO, HC, and NOx, but it significantly influences ultra-fine PM. Copyright (C) 2024 The Authors.
