摘要
This study is devoted to a theoretical understanding of the causes for the different arc cooling speed in air and SF6, proving support to the design of SF6-free high voltage circuit breakers. Based on a slender arc in a supersonic nozzle, it is shown why the material properties control the radial temperature profile of the arc column and how this affects the behavior of arc cooling.
