摘要
This work presents a new design approach to realize high gain on-chip antennas at Ka-band. The proposed antenna combines a self-aligning on-chip spherical dielectric resonator with a resonant cavity antenna (RCA) to offer increased gain with efficient on-chip coupling. The proposed superstrate layer is fully made of dielectric material with varied radial thicknesses. This finally results in 18.4 dBi of gain at 36.5 GHz along with a decent 4.80% of measured bandwidth considering on-chip limited substrate thickness. A patch antenna fed RCA is also tested to verify the effectiveness of the same proposed superstrate.
