摘要
This study investigates dropout rates in batterer intervention programs (BIPs) for intimate partner violence (IPV) offenders and their impact on recidivism. Utilizing a sample of 544 IPV offenders in Spain, the study aims to distinguish characteristics between program completers and dropouts, identify predictors of attrition, and examine how dropout relates to reoffending rates. The methodology is based on a review of archival records of IPV offenders who underwent a treatment program in the community, and the statistical analysis includes a comparison between completers and the dropout group, as well as a logistic regression to identify predictors of dropout. Findings indicate significant associations between program dropout and recidivism, with non-completion being a strong predictor of future offenses. The study highlights the necessity of addressing risk factors such as drug abuse and non-national status to improve program retention and reduce recidivism. These results shed light on the relationship between dropout from IPV intervention programs and recidivism, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches and early intervention strategies for the high-risk dropout profile to increase victim safety.
