Effect of Induction Heating Composite Shot Peening on the Wear Resistance and Fatigue Strength of 20CrMnTi Spiral Bevel Gears

摘要
Aiming at the problems of surface wear and fatigue failure of spiral bevel gears of heavy-duty axles, a new surface strengthening technology of induction heating composite shot peening (IHCSP) is proposed. This article designs an IHCSP test scheme to achieve surface composite strengthening of spiral bevel gears. The wear performance and fatigue strength of the gears were analyzed by using the gear fatigue transmission test bench, and the residual stress, microhardness, surface topography, and microstructure of the gears' surface were measured. The results show that IHCSP increases the maximum compressive residual stress of the gear surface to - 1082.79 MPa, the corresponding layer depth is 87 um, the gear surface microhardness is 782.7 HV, and the hardened layer depth is increased by 43%. Meanwhile, the wear resistance of spiral bevel gears is improved, the gear surface wear error is reduced by 30.5%, and the fatigue life is increased by 31.4%, which proves the effectiveness of IHCSP in improving the fatigue strength of spiral bevel gears.
