Freud's dream theory from the perspective of his late works. The integration of the structural approach

This article aims to make Freud's dream theory easier to understand. The new perspective it presents is based on chapter 5 of Freud's Outline of psychoanalysis. This chapter contains a compact summary of Freud's dream theory from a structural point of view. The authors propose utilizing this chapter as a kind of interpretation aid for the understanding of the Interpretation of Dreams, illustrated by a number of passages from chapter 7 of that work. Their intention is to demonstrate that the Interpretation of dreams does not have to be rewritten to accommodate the structural approach. The topographical and the structural viewpoints can be neatly dovetailed. Subsequently, this new reading is compared with some earlier psychoanalytic publications, followed by a discussion of the clinical application of dream theory. Finally, the authors provide a ten-point summary of their new take on Freud's dream theory.
