Q/V-Band 1-Bit Reconfigurable Metasurface for 6G Non-Terrestrial Network Applications

Dynamic Metasurface Antennas (DMA) have gained a great research interest recently due to its EM wave control capabilities. In this paper, we present a novel DMA design using 1-bit controlled reconfigurable metasurface (MTS). The proposed antenna operates in the new mmWave spectrum of Q-band (37.5GHz to 42.5GHz) and V-band (47.2GHz to 50.2GHz). The design is verified through both extensive simulations and lab measurements. This proof-of-concept (PoC) design shows that low dissipation and high phase shift between operating states can be achieved. The metasurface is dual polarised operating in the vertical and horizontal polarisation's. The measured results show a phase shift of over 145. across the full band at 20 degrees while the maximum dissipation level was found to be above -6dB.
