Psammogeton tylerii sp. nov. (Apiaceae: Pimpinelleae) from Jammu, India

A new species, Psammogeton tylerii (Apiaceae) from a natural population along the riverine catchment area of the district of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, is described and illustrated. The new species differs from its closely allied Psammogeton canescens in having an exceptionally elongated peduncle (12-20 cm) which is articulated nearly in the middle. The inflorescence is 4.0-6.5 cm across with 2.0-3.2 cm long rays. The number of flowers is about 25 per umbellet. To make it easier to identify it in the field, a diagnostic key, images and illustrations of peduncle, inflorescence and umbellets are presented.
