摘要
One of the most notable physicians of the second half of the 20th century was Dr. Juan Emilio Cordi & eacute;s Negret. The present research aims to analyze the life and work of this distinguished Cuban professional. To this end, primary and secondary sources will be used, from a qualitative approach, as well as interviews with experts in order to analyze aspects of his life. This intellectual is considered the first Cuban clinician to perform therapeutic actions on patients with obstetric conditions. Dr. Cordi & eacute;s studied medicine in France, validating his doctoral degree in 1938. His education is recognized by the Santiago society, despite facing the prejudices of the time due to the color of his skin. He had a very active professional and cultural life, serving as the personal physician and translator for the Haitian consul in Santiago de Cuba; he also taught at the Secondary Education Center and the Normal School for teachers in the East. He represented Cuban medicine at national and international events, standing out for his professionalism and knowledge. He would conduct various studies related to pregnancy, helping obstetricians and specialists to prevent certain diseases during gestation. It is necessary to continue delving into the biographies of personalities like this from the first half of the 20th century, in order to understand the evolution of Cuban and Latin American medicine.
