摘要
This study examines the mediating effects of Embodied Cultural Capital (ECC) and Institutionalized Cultural Capital (ICC) on the relationship between Internet use and depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults. Data came from the 2021 Chinese General Social Survey, which consisted of 2,929 older adults. ECC and ICC were measured through six cultural activities, and educational attainment separately. The Karlson Holm Breen method was used to examine the operating mechanisms in Internet use, depressive symptoms, ICC, and ECC and to analyse the corresponding total, direct, and indirect effects. The relationship between Internet use and depressive symptoms in Chinese older adults was partially mediated by ICC and ECC, accounting for 52.0% (beta=-0.060, p < 0.001) and 10.2% (beta=-0.012, p < 0.05) of the total effect, separately. The mediating effect of ICC varied by education levels. The findings highlight the significant role of Cultural Capital in shaping the influence of Internet use on older adults.
