摘要
Plant heterosis has been recognized as being primarily dependent on the genetics of contrasting parents. However, in recent work, Liu et al. describe 'endophytic microbiomeinduced heterosis', showing distinct and diverse seed microbiomes in hybrids, which boosted seed germination compared with their parents. Here, we discuss the possible impact of this finding for sustainable agriculture.
