Mexico Under the Universal Human Rights System: The Case of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families

The relationship between Mexico and human rights treaty bodies has been paradigmatic due to the adoption of a foreign policy based on an openness to international scrutiny that is not reflected in the internal situation of human rights. An example of this contradiction is the case of the rights of migrants in Mexico. The objective of this article is to analyze the effects of mechanisms of the United Nations System of Human Rights, specifically the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families in Mexico, to determine the scope of the impact of civil society on the guarantee of human rights of migrants despite the lack of international consensus regarding the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. La relaci & oacute;n de M & eacute;xico con los & oacute;rganos de tratados de derechos humanos ha sido paradigm & aacute;tica debido a la adopci & oacute;n de una pol & iacute;tica exterior basada en una apertura al escrutinio internacional que no se refleja en la situaci & oacute;n interna de los derechos humanos. Un ejemplo de esta contradicci & oacute;n es el caso de los derechos de los migrantes en el pa & iacute;s. El objetivo de este art & iacute;culo es analizar los efectos de los mecanismos del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas de Derechos Humanos, espec & iacute;ficamente del Comit & eacute; de Protecci & oacute;n de los Derechos de Todos los Trabajadores Migratorios y de sus Familiares en M & eacute;xico, para determinar el alcance de la incidencia de la sociedad civil en la garant & iacute;a de los derechos humanos de los migrantes a pesar de la falta de consenso internacional en torno a la Convenci & oacute;n Internacional sobre la Protecci & oacute;n de los Derechos de Todos los Trabajadores Migratorios y de sus Familiares.
