Museu do Samba: The Importance of Audiovisual Resources in Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage

This article aims to identify characteristics present in audiovisual resources as allies in safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as its dissemination. The case study was carried out with the Samba Museum in Rio de Janeiro as its object, and specifically with investigative support from the Oral History Center, which uses audiovisual objects as a means of recording, organizing and making available testimonies from protagonists of cultural expression Samba. Samba also stars in one of the biggest popular demonstrations in Brazil and one of the biggest tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro: the samba school parade. Theoretical sources relating to collective memory and heritage, present in institutional documents, were articulated as a way of interpreting the gaps found in the issues of safeguarding audiovisual records, which can lead to the loss of memory and the impoverishment of Brazilian heritage.
