The creative process and the distinctive elements of sound fiction on Spanish radio stations and platforms: case study

Sound fiction reborns in Spain with the irruption of sound platforms such as Podium Podcast since 2016, experimental sound innovation of the public broadcaster RNE with the RTVE Audiovisual Innovation Laboratory and the occasional broadcast of audio dramas on conventional radio channels, which broadcast these programs in special periods. This study is based on a case study of ten radio fictions produced by the radio stations RNE, Ser and Onda Cero and the platforms Podium Podcast and Spotify. The mixed methodology used for this study combines content analysis with in-depth interviews to eight experts related with the process of execution of sound fictions in different aspects to Know the creative process in different angles. The results of the research underline the distinctive features of the genre in each of the platforms and stations and how distribution and consumption on demand make it possible to resurge the genre with very careful productions in sound design and focused on an audience used to audiovisual media and cinema, which has envolved with respect to radio theatre.
