The severity of acute SARS-CoV-2 infections has dropped significantly since the initial onset of the pandemic, with hospitalizations and deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) declining 60% and 83% respectively, as of 2023.1 Though there has been a reduction in the severity of acute COVID-19 complications, the long-term impacts of the disease remain a concern to many.
