Effect of High-Frequency Mold Oscillation on Morphology of Primary and Eutectic Phases of A308 Aluminum Alloy

摘要
This research, conducted with meticulous attention to detail, focuses on exploring the impacts of high-frequency mold oscillation on the morphological development during the gravity die casting process of A308 (LM21) alloy. In this study, the mold was placed on an oscillation table, and the frequency of mold oscillation was adjusted to 200 Hz, 250 Hz, 300 Hz, and 350 Hz while maintaining a constant amplitude of 5 mu m. This was carried out to understand the impact of oscillation on structural evolution. The changes in metallurgical properties were assessed with an optical microscope, FESM, X-ray diffraction analysis, and EDS. The obtained results inferred that the microstructure of A308 alloy was considerably refined in terms of grain size of the primary phase matrix and enhanced eutectic phases (Al2Cu and Fe1.7SiAl4) morphology due to mold oscillations. Casting in an oscillating mold led to a notable decrease in shrinkage porosity and higher density than castings made without mold oscillation. The thoroughness of our research process instills confidence in the validity of these results.
