摘要
Academic integrity is a controversial topic in the era of artificial intelligence that produced cutting-edge technologies. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in an irresponsible and unethical manner paved the way to academic dishonesty. To the best of the author's knowledge, there is no research in the Arab Gulf area to discuss the dark side of ChatGPT. This paper develops a questionnaire measuring undergraduates' attitudes towards aigiarism using ChatGPT and explores its association with their attitudes towards plagiarism. 131 participants (35 males, 96 females) responded to two online questionnaires, namely, Attitudes Toward Aigiarism Questionnaire (ATAQ) and Attitudes Toward Plagiarism Questionnaire (ATPQ). The newly developed scale showed adequate factor validity and reliability. The results of Pearson correlation revealed significant positive association between aigiarism and plagiarism attitudes (r = 569, p < 0.01). Linear regression analysis indicated that attitude towards plagiarism was a significant predictor of attitudes towards aigiarism (R2 = .324), F (1, 129) = (61.79), p = .001, β = (.569), p = 0.001). Frequencies and percentages showed that 27% and 57% of students had positive attitudes towards plagiarism and aigiarism, respectively. No significant gender differences in aigiarism were detected. Attitudes towards aigiarism did not differ according to academic major (human-scientific) or lower and higher GPA.
