ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN EDUCATION METHOD INTRODUCING FEEDBACK BY 2D MAPPING OF DESIGN EVALUATIONS

This paper presents a new feedback method for architectural design education that introduces 2D mapping of evaluation data expressed by the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). This method combines machine learning techniques to visualize a set of AHP data as a scatter plot in a 2D space, providing a representation of the similarity between different evaluations. This paper further reports the results of implementing the method in an architectural design studio and found that the mapping was consistent with the students’ intuitive understanding of design evaluations. Furthermore, the students were also able to reflect on their design process by reviewing the 2D mapping result. © 2024 Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.
