摘要
Ni3Al 3 Al intermetallics are known for their excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures. In this work, thermal stability of spark-plasma sintered Al-matrix composites reinforced with Ni3Al 3 Al particles is investigated. Composites were sintered at 16 MPa and 450 degrees C for 3 min and aging treatments at 300, 400 and 500 degrees C were applied. After 500 h of aging at 300 and 400 degrees C the Ni3Al 3 Al intermetallic is still present. After 5 h of aging at 500 degrees C, Ni3Al 3 Al transforms into a mixture of the Al3Ni 3 Ni and Al3Ni2 3 Ni 2 intermetallics. The transformation progressed until only Al3Ni 3 Ni can be detected, dispersed in the Al matrix. Effects of aging in microhardness were limited at 300 and 400 degrees C, but an important decrease was observed at 500 degrees C.
