Beyond binding: A review on binders in high-voltage transition metal oxide cathode of lithium ion battery

摘要
High-voltage transition metal oxide cathodes (TMOC) represent an efficient path to achieve high capacity; the challenges aroused by high voltage are yet to be solved. Binders play a crucial role in stabilizing the electrode; developing advanced binders is a potential solution to address the high-voltage dilemma for TMOC. This review summarizes the principles to follow over the course of pursuing a high-performance binder for TMOC; the pros and/or cons of the commercial PVDF as well as other advanced binders for high-voltage TMOC are also discussed; the state-of-the-art strategies to develop advanced binders for high-voltage TOMCs reported in recent years are also categorized and compared. Last but not least, perspectives and challenges on developing the binders applicable to high-voltage TMOCs are also provided.
