The results of a study of the effect of nickel, carbon, and nitrogen on the mechanical properties of Kh13G18 base chromium-manganese steels are presented. It is shown that Kh13G18 base chromium-manganese steel alloyed with 0. 08-0. 1%C, 0. 20-0. 23%N, and 6. 0-6. 5%Ni,40 6. 5%Ni, after austenization, possesses an optimal combination of mechanical and plastic properties both at room temperature and at low temperatures and can be recommended for use under conditions of intense cold down to minus 196 degree C.
