摘要
Construction blasting with small diameter holes is becoming more and more demanding. Blasting for roadways, subway tunnels, sewer lines and other utilities is often done in densely populated areas and near existing structures. In addition, the nature of construction blasting makes control critical even in open areas. For example, there is usually no open face in trench blasting. As a result, broken rock has no place to go except up and out of the trench. When blasting for road cuts, requirements are often critical for vibration levels, flyrock and fragmentation. The tight drill patterns common in many construction blasting situations concentrate the explosive energy, building high pressure levels in the ground. Ground water in the boreholes complicates the situation even further. These factors create a unique set of problems for the construction blasting contractor. To deal with them, the contractor needs explosives and detonators designed for consistent and dependable performance in these difficult situations. This article discusses the tough conditions encountered in construction blasting and proposes a more effective solution.
