Computational model for migration probability of single-cone liquid-liquid hydrocyclones

Based on the approach of Bloor and Ingham in solving the inner flow field of hydrocyclones, the moving locus of fluid particles is analyzed. A computation model is developed for calculating the migration probability of single-cone liquid-liquid hydrocyclones and separating light dispersions. According to this model, all the integration coefficients will be determined without fitting them to experimental velocity data. The calculated results are in excellent agreement with Thew's data at different flow rates, split ratios or fluid properties. The computational approach in this paper can be used reliably to predict the effects of hydrocyclone's structural parameters on migration probability, as no simplifications for structure parameters are involved in this model.
