摘要
The technology has been developed for manufacturing flexible fiber lightguides. They are mainly used in medical and industrial endoscopic instruments, sensing holes in punched card readers, illuminating the directly inaccessible regions like in a jet aircraft engine, complicated machines, complex castings, barrels etc. A lightguide is an assembly of optical glass fibers protected in a flexible steel tubing. The ends of the fiber bundle are cemented, polished and fixed in suitably designed metallic endcaps. The technology of optical fibers used in these lightguides has been developed. A fiber drawing machine for fabricating these fibers has also been designed and built indigenously. A variety of lightguides with different specifications have been designed and developed. These lightguides have been used in the various instruments developed in CSIO.
