Aromatic derivatives of N-2-pyridylthioamides were synthesized by the reaction of aromatic aldehydes or ketones with 2-aminopyridine and sulfur, according to the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction. The thioamides obtained were characterized by the Proton NMR and IR spectroscopy. Their effect on anticorrosion, antiwear, and extreme pressure properties of the M-11 oil were tested. It has been found that all these properties of the new additives are much higher than those of the ABS-2 commercial additive, and EP properties are in addition higher than those of N-2-pyridyldiheptanethioamide.
