Paper presents the preliminary results of an investigation of the buckling phenomenon and discusses several forms of buckling such as: buckling of cylindrical shells; ovalization; bending-, external pressure-, and propagating buckling as well as buckle ramifications. Investigation will continue to: characterize the propagating buckling in more detail; develop an analytic treatment; and determine an engineering and economical way of arresting a propagating buckling once initiated, but more especially, negating the initiation of one.
