The application of elastomers to the surface of mandrels is called rollcovering. Covered rolls are used in a variety of industries that include printing, paper, textiles, steel, office machinery and many others. They are used to squeeze, drive, emboss, convey, protect, dye, suction, treat, pickle, reduce noise, coat, paint and print. It is not suprising that with so many end use applications, problems and difficulties in manufacturing also exist. The purpose of this article is to discuss some established methods of manufacture, some newer methods, problems associated with each and some possible solutions.
