Berlin's island position confronts the Bewag with extraordinary responsibilities because the electricity requirements must be generated exclusively by its own plants. The new coal fired heat and power plant Reuter West is a major asset in the supply function. Its modern technology makes it one of the most environment-compatible power generation plants. When the 2 multiplied by 300 MW blocks go into operation in Autumn 1987 and 1988 respectively, the energy supply will be secured and modernization of the remaining plants will be facilitated.
