A technique for evaluating the conjugate heat transfer from a fin of arbitrary cross section operating in longitudinal flow in the case in which its base temperature varies with the fin length and with time, is presented. Distributions of temperature, heat fluxes and fin efficiencies with respect to time and for fins with flat, triangular and parabolic cross sections are derived. Conditions under which the problem must be analyzed in the conjugate formulation are defined.
