The cationic polymerization process of tetrahydrofuran was investigated in the presence of triephenylsulfonium hexafluorophosphate upon irradiation with UV light with λ > 254 nm. Kinetic parameters of the reaction and their dependence on temperature, light intensity, and concentration of components were determined. The mechanism of the process, including photochemical and dark stages, is discussed. Effective rate constants of chain growth and their dependence on the polymerization conditions indicate a definite role of the dark reaction.
