System for slag separation, slag coating and automatic tapping of the BOS converter

A slag stopper system which blows a high pressure jet of gas back through the tap hole as soon as slag is detected electronically in the metal flow is reducing slag entrapment in cast slab typically 0.1%. Savings of $1/t result in a payback period for the device of just six months and lining life is increased 10% by slag coating.
