Cracks in the heads (end walls of tube) of tube mills should be effectively dealt with as soon as they are detected. It is unwise to wait until the damage has become worse. Remedial measures for treating two adjacent cracks are described in the article. Neither of the cracks extended through the full thickness of the wall. The choice of weld filler metal, the preparations for carrying out the repairs, and the repair work itself are reported.
