Flow characteristics in the region just upstream of the terminal Mach disk in an arc-heated free jet issuing from a supersonic nozzle were measured. Results on the distribution of stream energy, electron concentration and electron temperature as well as the local Mach number, impact pressure, static pressure and static temperature are discussed.
