As time goes on, the ability to convert one hydrocarbon to another economically will increase, driven by the fact that hydrocarbons will become relatively scarce in the western world, in spite of the present glut. The convertability will be required not just for ease of transportation but because higher quality transportation fuels will continue to be demanded. Gas winning, transporting, modifying, distributing and marketing present challenges for the future which demand the most sophisticated and advanced skills of many scientific and technological disciplines.
