Surface Hardening of Aluminum Alloy Parts with the Aid of Electron Beams.

Aluminum alloy parts without and with the introduction of additional alloying elements were experimentally surface hardened with the aid of electron beams. The characteristic feature of this process is the fast solidification of the molten metal. The treatment results in a fairly high hardness and an essentially improved toughness of the components.
