Examination of the substructure of permanent SmCo5 magnets

The permanent SmCo5 magnets are technically very interesting materials with distinctive uniaxial magnetocrystal anisotropy. Since these are single-phase materials, the optimum magnetic properties from the viewpoint of the structure are controlled by the purity of the material, grain size, and ordering perfection; it is essential to prevent the precipitation of phases bordering to the SmCo5 intermetallic compound in the equilibrium diagram. The article describes the examination of the domain structure and substructure of SmCo5 magnets by transmission electron microscopy. The results of the examination are presented and discussed.
