In this review paper the author presents statistical data relating production and consumption of GRP and other reinforced plastics composites and discusses mechanical properties and performance of composites reinforced with various reinforcing fibers. Extensive data are presented which show performance and application fields, glass fibers, carbon fibers, and Kevlar-49 fibers (poly-p-benzamide based) synthetic fiber. Manufacture techniques of reinforced plastics composites and their applications are also described, particularly in the production of GFRP structural components, pressure vessels and containers. Forecast for future development is included.
