A new method of riser connection suitable to large-diameter pipelines in deepwater is described. Developed by Brown & Root Inc. , the guide shoe riser (GSR) method involves pulling a pipe around a curved boundary from the sea bottom up to the surface for connection to platform piping. This method for installing large-diameter risers in deep water offers the advantages of both conventional J-tube riser and bending-shoe riser procedures without their disadvantages.
