The use of cyclones in industry for the separation of solids from either gases or liquids has greatly increased in recent years. This is largely due to the relative simplicity of construction of the units, and the range of applications for which they are suitable. This article outlines the basic working principles of the cyclone, and describes some applications for water and wastewater treatment.
