Failure Preventive Engineering (FPE) has become a subject of increasing industrial interest and it addresses not only managers and manufacturers in the field of heavy industry and large-size industrial components, but touches almost anyone in the chain from the designer to the user and failure analyst in the process of development, marketing, operating and scrapping of a product. A crucial element for fail-safety of structures is formed by design defects. This contribution highlights the role and aspects of design defects in the intercourse of the engineering world with products liability.
