This paper briefly presents the main concepts of the seismic retrofit design criteria for San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge West Spans, a twin tandem suspension bridge structure. The San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge West Spans Seismic Retrofit Design Criteria (Criteria) has been based on past successful experiences, various codes and specifications and state-of-the-art knowledge. The final retrofit designs are also summarized.
