This paper presents an experimental investigation acousto-optical modulators fabricated from a new glass of composition 3TeO2-2ZnCl2 which exhibits transparency in the 0.42-5.7 μm region. Results show that the chlorotellurite glass can be applied to acoustooptics due to its transparency in the visible and midinfrared range, when combined with its nontoxicity, ease of fabrication, optical quality, and isotropic characteristics.
