摘要
A new discharger for fibrous materials, the baffled bin activator, has been designed, constructed and tested. This device encourages natural tendencies of fibrous materials to arch and then exploits their weaknesses in compression. Attributes of two existing devices have been successfully combined to create the conditions necessary for arch (dome) formation and its proper manipulation. Present dischargers of fibrous materials, particularly silage, are described and discussed. The unique and troublesome strength behaviour of fibrous materials is detailed. The development of the baffled bin activator, from antecedent devices to the present prototype, is related to these strength characteristics. Test results are included to demonstrate performance of the baffled bin activator.
