Influence of the uncertainties of combustion product radiative properties on the accuracy of radiative heat transfer calculation in furnaces

The process of radiative heat transfer in a three-dimension rectangular furnace was simulated by using discrete-ordinates method, and the corresponding computer code was compiled. With the code, the influence of the uncertainties of media absorption and scattering coefficients, phase function, spectral properties and emissivities of ash deposits on the accuracy of gas temperature and heat flux predictions in rectangular furnace was analyzed. It was found that the accuracy of gas temperature and heat flux predictions is limited mostly by the accuracy of radiative properties of combustion products, especially by the emissivities of ash deposits, and scattering can not be omitted in coal-fired furnaces.
