The Flensburg energy plan envisages heat supply to the city which is completely via a pipeline network, and is almost exclusively dependent on a hot-water supply from a coal-fired cogenerating station with block-units of small output, the turbines in which are of various designs, and which therefore allow optimum matching to the requirements of heat supply and of the electricity supply. Low specific installation costs give a favorable cost position, making reasonable district-heating prices possible, which results in an density of connection 85% to the transmission lines. A high rate of development has made it possible within a generation to connect 70% of the buildings in the town to the district-heating network. Many diagrams and plans illustrate the article.
