The application of computers for the control of processes in the Australian mineral industry has kept pace with similar developments in the mineral and other process industries such as the chemical industry overseas. The control of mineral process plant by computer is discussed, particular attention being given to the trends toward the integration of computers, Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and the use of hierarchical systems. In this connection the role of the techniques used in the chemical industry for the modeling and analysis of processes is discussed also.
