REFERENCE TO STANDARDS.

The topic is limited to the reference to standards such as they exist in authority regulations. For the time being, an increased need in governmental regulations is noted, whereas more and more results are available in the form of standards. At first basic documents and organizations concerned as well as the correlative practice of joint consultations on an international level are examined. Then the different cases of the reference to standards, as well as the different ways of referring to standards are distinguished and the corresponding ISO/IEC code is cited. Further analysis is devoted on the one hand to the recommendations of the Permanent Commission of EEC and on the other hand to term definitions elaborated by the latter and CENELEC. In conclusion, in the future an increased use by the authorities of results from the different standards organizations is foreseen. The future recommendations in this field, such as those given to the Governments by the Permanent Commission mentioned above, will probably have also as a consequence a new development of guidelines for the use of the reference to standards.
