A new detector (2θ) arm has been commissioned on the two-circle powder diffractometer on station 2.3 at the CCLRC Daresbury synchrotron source. The instrument is used for a range of experiments including high resolution powder diffraction (flat plate and capillary geometries), grazing incidence measurements and reflectivity experiments. Interconversion between these experimental configurations using the old detector arm was a time-consuming (2-3 hours) and non-user friendly procedure. With the new 2θ arm, operational performance has been greatly enhanced due to the ease of interchange between diffraction geometries.
